Sound Concrete & The Environment
The intention of sustainable design as Wikipedia puts it is to “eliminate negative environmental impact completely through skillful, sensitive design.” Beyond the “elimination of negative environmental impact”, sustainable design must create projects that are meaningful innovations that can shift behavior. Here’s how we remain at the forefront of environmentally responsible craftsmanship.
We replace a percentage of the Portland cement with pozzolans, which are waste products of other industrial processes which would otherwise end up in a landfill.
We purchase all of our cement, sand and aggregates locally. The recycled glass inlays and VCAS pozzolan (recycled glass byproduct) are also bought locally.
Our molding process and the materials used to mold the countertops are reusable and recyclable. Rolled top steel tables can be used over and again for decades and melamine sheets are made from recycled sawdust.
During the sealing process we use water based sealers that contain zero VOC’s which also make the countertops environmentally friendly.
